My magnum opus for winter 2022-2023. This was a big effort for me. Three-and-a-half months. 33 nights outside dodging rain, snow, wind, the moon, plumbers, and a hungry possum. 108 hours integration time (I've left that blank here because I've posted it with the details on the individual panels I previously posted). 208 megapixels. From the Cone to the Finger, I squeezed in as much of Monoceros as I could in a Dallas winter.

All the panels in this mosaic have not only RGB stars, but also RGB data blended in with the SHO data. It was necessary to do that so that the reflection nebulas (e.g., IC 447--Dreyer's Nebula) would show up.

This image notably contains (from top to bottom): Sh2-284 (The Finger), Sh2-282, Sh2-280, Caldwell 49 (The Rosette), NGC 2244, LBN 947, NGC 2261 (Hubble's Variable Nebula), NGC 2264 (The Cone Nebula and the Christmas Tree Cluster), Sh2-273 (The Fox Fur Nebula), IC 447 (Dreyer's Nebula), B39 (which I call the Razorback Nebula), and LBN 902 (which I call the Little Tulip).

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
